The Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico has no rivers above ground because its upper layer is soft limestone. The water is found below ground in underground rivers and cenotes such as this one near Chichén-Itzá. (This photo went on to be the Photo of the Day for National Geographic on Sept 16, 2011!)
